ABSTRACT

Thrombophilia is characterized by increasing blood coagulability. It causes preeclampsia and repeated abortions. This study was done to determine the corrolation of coagulation factors deficiency with preeclampsia. This case-control study was carried out on 142 pregnant women with preeclampsia as caess and 142 pregnant women without preeclampsia as controls. Coagulation factors including Prs, prc, and anti-thrombin-3 were measured using ELISA and chromogenic methods. Prs deficiency was found in 2 [1.4%] and 6 [4.2%] of cases and controls, respectively. This difference was not significant. Prc and anti-thrombin- 3 deficiencies was not found in cases and controls. There is not any relation between deficiencies of coagulation factors with preeclampsia

ABSTRACT

Background and Objective: Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, inflammatory and systemic disease with peripheral, symmetric polyarthritis symptoms. Several genetic, environmental, and immunological factors contribute greatly to the disease pathogenesis. This study was done to evaluate the effect of anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide [anti - CCP] and rheumatoid factor on clinical disease activity index [CDAI] in the patients with rheumatoid arthritis

Methods: This prospective cohort study was done on 64 rheumatoid arthritis patients according to ACR criteria [1978] whom referred to Rheumatology Clinic of Hajar Hospital in Shahrekord, Iran. Patients were clinically examined for primary CDAI and tested for anti - CCP and rheumatoid factor in the prior and six months after the initiation of the study

Results: 81.3% and 74% of the patients had high titers of anti - CCP antibody and positive rheumatoid factor, respectively. A non-significant recudtion was observed in intensity of secondary clinical activity of the disease in compare to primary clinical activity in the patients with high antibody titer

Conclusion: This study indicated the important role of rheumatoid factor and anti- CCP antibody in the on time diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis

ABSTRACT

Labor pain, is one of the severe pains which is experienced by humans. Fear of this pain is caused elective cesarean for delivery in women. One of the safe and inexpensive drug methods for pain relief in delivery is entonox. In this study, the effect of entonox on the severity of pain, mothers hemodynamic and fetus apgar in natural vaginal delivery was investigated. In this clinical trial study, 60 women with an equal qualification who refferd to hajar hospital in Shahrekord were randomly chosen for vaginal delivery. They were randomly divided into two groups, one group [case] received entonox gas and other group [control] did not. Entonox was given to mothers by a mask after start of active phase of labor. The case group received entonox up to the end of the second phase of delivery, and the effect of entonox was recorded on the severity of pain and mother hemodynamic condition. Fetus apgar in natural vaginal delivery was compared between two groups. Data were analyzed using descriptive and analytic tests. The mean of pain scores in case group was 3.98 +/- 2.7 and 5.60 +/- 3.8 for control group [P=0.03] and it was 7.20 +/- 0.6 and 10 for each group in the second phose of delivery respectively. There were no significant differences between two groups in the maternal blood pressure, fetal heart rate and apgar scores. The mean of maternal heart rate and respiratory rate in case group were more than control group, but nausea and vomiting in the first and second stages of labor in case group were more than control group. In vaginal delivery, entonox can create adequate and effective analgesia without major complications for mothers and fetuses, and this can reduces the complications of cesarean section

ABSTRACT

Several studies have shown that many pregnant women use medicinal plants during pregnancy without knowing some of those teratogenic effects. One of these plants is Stachys lavandulifolia that is used for many health treatments. The teratogenic effect of this plant has not been established yet. Therefore in this study the teratogenic effect of Stachys lavandulifolia was investigated in Balb/c mice. In this experimental study, 60 female Wistar rats [30-40 gr, 8-12 weeks old] were randomlydesignated into 6 groups. [2 control and 4 case groups]. Pregnancy was confirmed with vaginal plaque. The doses of 50, 100, 150 and 200 mg/kg of the extracts of Stachys lavandulifolia vahl were injected intra peritoneal [i.p.] to pregnant mice from the 7th to 12th days of pregnancy. The fifth group received saline and theSixth group [control group] received nothing. In the 18th day of the pregnancy the fetuses were removed from the uterine tubes and their weight and height were measured by digital scale and Kullis, then they were painted by red alizarin and their skeletal disorders were checked. Data were analyzed with Chi square and Kruskal Wallis and Dunn post hoc tests. Using different doses of hydro alcoholic extract of Stachys lavandulifolia the fetal growth was impaired and this impairment increasesd with increased doses of the extract [P<0.01]. In the dose of 200 mg/kg inter parietal bone was not observed in 40% of embryos [P<0.01], regarding the extra rib there was no significant difference between groups. In the case of having additional rib, no significant difference was found between the groups. Stachysl lavandulifolia extract has teratogenic effect and using it causes growth retardation and stopping the inter parietal bone formation. Therefore it should be considered as contraindication or use with caution, in pregnancy
